THE ESSENCE OF MUSIC

On blackberries, ipods, ipads, Tv and other electronic devices, music is been played in Nigeria, even around the world on a daily basics. Music has gained much grounds in public places, weddings, parties and even in our living room! The other day, the incumbent president of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Johnathan commissioned about 14million naira to be invested in the Entertainment/music industry alone as a means of revamping the economy of Nigeria and empowering young talents. That is a huge amount of money if you may ask me! Many had risen from obscurity to stardom by release of certain "hit track albums" that had set youths in Nigerian dancing. Consequently, there is an exodus of individuals to the music/ entertainment industry hoping to use these medium as a platform to unleashing their God given talents and abilities. Music hassreally set many tongues wagging as far as Nigeria is corncerned.

However, many people including our youths have failed to understand the true purpose and essence of music, its effects, advantages and influences on the lives of people and on the growth of a Nation like Nigeria at large. Music is the gateway to our spirit and soul. It is a big thing of disgust when I see people use musical videos to lure and corrupt the human mind, all in the name of music! Many a youths had fallen prey of premarital sex, masturbation, lust and other sexually related sins. Let me tell you, there is more to music than meets the eyes. A piece of music may either make you or mar you, lift your spirit of choke it. Watch what you listen! My good friend victor once told me,"Cyprian, you are what you listen" No wonder the bible asserts in the book of proverbs 4:23"Guide your heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life

 Music is one of the fastest media for disseminating information across to people and I think it is more sensible we, watch what we pass across to others. Science had proven that about 2,000 information passes across our mind on a daily basics and that each trace of these information has influence on our mind. Many youth have backslided in their faith and spiritual life because the have choose to pay attention to the negative side of music, they have allowed their environment to control them , rather than controlling their environment. What happen if you you continuously dump garbage bins in a particular spot just around your house, with time, its content will decay and begin to ooze out bad odor. That is the same with the human mind. Whatever you allow to dwell in it will definitely grow.

  Uncountable youths delve into the music/entertainment industry without first clarifying their purpose by asking strong questions like: How will this music am working on transform lives? How will this piece change our nation? How can I use my music to draw souls to God?. They only fix their minds on the proceeds and gains they are going to amass. So that pay little or no attention to what they are passing across to the world. The devil is now using music as one of his measures to shatter and choke the dreams of our youths  while an average street kid will think he/she is having fun, he never realize he is wasting his live.

I am making a clarion call today. Let's embrace a kind of music that will proffer solutions to the our seemingly insurmountable problems besetting Nigeria. Let's save our country and recover our lost future. Let's look at music from a different but yet better paradigm. Let save our youths! Enough of this nude musical videos we watch and listen our homes.

Before I end this note, I want to use this medium to appreciate artistes/musicians in Nigeria and around the globe for not just making marks in the music industry, but for using it a another means of steering the live of people ahead. You all inspired me to write this note. God bless you all.
