On
the face of an average Nigerian, anger, hate, vexation, is written all
over. They are ready to slaughter this man called Government. I just
hope they do not cross paths other otherwise……Only God knows what will be
the end of the story. This has been the fate of an average Nigerian for
donkey’s years. But where is this man called Government? Where does he
lives? Give me his house address because I am going to visit him so he
could refund all the billions of naira he has embezzled. How many
children does he have? But come to think of it, this 'man' called
Government does not truly exist. It seems to me a kind of
mirage that has deceived you and me for too long a time. Had I
known. It is a normal thing for an average Nigerian to lay all their
misfortunes and shortcomings on the Government. When our roads are not
repaired we call on the Government, when our lights are out we call the
Government, when we do not secure jobs, we say the Government has
already put her children and family members there. When things are not
going smoothly we drag the Government. When our clothes are dirty [whom
do we call] the Government? I can hear you laughing, but I tell you if
we not unlearn these ill habits of putting all our blames on the Government then that is the level we are going to
get to-A level of high class IRRESPONSIBILITY
Is the Government no longer responsible for
providing services for the people any longer? You may be angered to ask
me. Of course yes, they are mandated to provide and meet the needs of the people.
‘But then what are you trying to say’ I can hear that coming from deep
within you. Now see this little analysis. Sorry I am not quite good at
mathematics, but I hope my little ‘analysis’ will make you understand my
point. What is the populace of Nigeria in totality? How many young
people graduate from the University at completion of their
courses of study? How many vacant jobs are left for this number of
graduates? How many Federal Universities do we have? I leave the answers
to you. If you think very well and do get the estimations right then
you will see the slim chances left for an average Nigerian Child. I am not a
politician but the situations of this country have made me to be some
kind of ‘politician’. Though I do not know much about the Government,
but our situation as it stands now has forced me to wanting to know the
status quo of this country called Nigeria. Because Nigeria is you and I we must be actively involved if we want her to progress to significance. Arguments here and there,
‘The Government is bad, they are stupid they think they can full us. 'May
God punish them all’ I know you have heard this statement countless
times. An average Nigerian is unhappy about the mess this country
has gotten into. Deep inside their heart are filled with effing
and blinding i.e. swear words. They always wished they could
just get hold of this man called Government and strangle him to death.
But where is this Government? The answer to these questions continues to
elude us.
The crux of the matter is this: Government is you and me. The power to change
this nation to suit the vision we have envisioned for ages lies in our hands and in the choices and decisions we take individually and collectively. In election, we are meant to believe that 'Our vote is our right' 'Our vote is our voice' and I can equally tell you that 'Our vote is our power'. The greatest
form of Government is self Government and that new kind of Government
is only possible when you and I become very responsible, when we begin
to accept responsibilities for our results. When we believe that collectively we can make a great difference in this nation. The kind of
success we should be fighting and dying for should no longer be personal
success but collective success. We should be succeeding
together and never walking alone. But the bible notes ‘Can to walk
together except they agree?’ For Nigeria to walk together as one to change the status-quo, there must be synergy-a unanimous and collective agreement. Nigerian is so blessed that if her wealth
is used to help others she will become great in no time. But somebody somewhere
wants it all for himself alone. Selfishness is hardwired in our blood. No one any longer think about the poor,
the less privileged, the uneducated and people who do not have the
opportunity like we do. Because too many people feel neglected that is
the sole reason they deadly devise and measures to fight back.
Love which is
the bedrock of every great nation has been weakened instead of
been strengthened. The rich only connect with the rich why the poor and the
people who do not have opportunity are left to fate and to die. We are
the cause of the ‘plagues’ befalling this nation. The land has been
poisoned with evil and greed and selfishness.
It will amaze you to know that deep christian principles were the bases
upon which the foundations and strength of great nations like The United
States of America was built. Abraham Lincoln once said 'Since the days of our founding fathers, prayer has been an indispensable
part of our heritage. We must remain faithful in our commitment to
intercede on behalf of our nation, and its leaders, especially at this
challenging time.' We have the power to transform this nation
but it has to be harnessed in Unity, love, peace and Harmony. We should
no longer wait for Mr. Government to provide every of our needs. We
can create something out of our creativity and talents and we can be use
the proceeds to better other people’s lives.
Nigerians, this is a clarion call to awaken that sleeping GIANT inside
of us. Graduates how long will you wait for the so called Government to
secure a job for you while God has blessed you richly with gifts,
talents and creativity. Remember the bible says that ‘The gift of a man
maketh room for him’ not ‘the education or degrees. Wake up and fulfill
your quota for this
nation.
